Mathic Number

A math game I built with Perry Clemmons, an elementary school teacher. The idea was arithmetic practice a kid would choose to do on their own.

Play it in the browserUnity build, roughly 22MB to load.

Practice that plays

The whole thing is presented on a chalkboard, which keeps it familiar without making it feel like a worksheet. There is a standard mode and a timed one, so you can either work through it at your own pace or push against a clock and watch yourself get faster.

Working with a teacher changed the design more than I expected. The pacing and the way problems are introduced came from how he teaches it, rather than from what I assumed would be fun.

It collects nothing

No accounts, no analytics, no data leaving the machine. Nothing is gathered and nothing is transmitted. That was deliberate from the start, because the people playing it are children, and the safest way to handle their data is to never have any.

Where it stands

The core game is playable and both modes are in, but it never got the polish pass I had planned. It has been sitting still for a while and it shows in places.

Give it a go.
